About Africa Safari Karatu
Africa Safari Karatu is a hilltop lodge on the edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, about 10 km from the Lodoare gate. From the top of the hill the view opens over the Ngorongoro Highlands, the slopes of the extinct Oldeani volcano and Lake Eyasi in the distance: farming country of green hills and coffee, known for its cool climate.
Guests stay in Comfort or Luxury bungalows, each with a private balcony and a 180-degree view; the Luxury bungalows add more space and a sofa in the sitting area. The restaurant and bar sit at the top of the hill and serve international dishes made with fresh local ingredients, some from the lodge's own farm. There are two swimming pools, one on the edge of the hill and a larger one with sun loungers, and a spa. The lodge runs on solar power and solar-heated water, with Wi-Fi in the restaurant and bar.
Halfway between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, it is an easy overnight stop on the northern circuit, and a good break on the drive between Arusha and the Serengeti.
