The Marangu Route is one of the most popular routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, located in Tanzania. Known as the "Coca-Cola" route, it is considered one of the easier and more straightforward paths to the summit, thanks to its shorter trekking days and more gradual ascent.

Today, you'll receive an essential climbing briefing at your hotel, where we'll go over important details to ensure a safe and successful climb. We'll also conduct a thorough check of your climbing gear to make sure you're fully prepared for the adventure ahead.

Your climb begins with a scenic drive from your hotel to Marangu Gate, located on Kilimanjaro’s southeastern side. After completing registration and a briefing, your adventure starts as you trek through the dense rainforest, where you’ll encounter vibrant birds, playful colobus monkeys, and lush vegetation. The well-maintained trail gradually ascends to Mandara Hut, where you'll spend your first night on the mountain. In the afternoon, you can enjoy a short walk to Maundi Crater, offering breathtaking panoramic views of northern Tanzania.

Leaving the forest behind, the trail enters the heath and moorland zone, characterized by rolling terrain and expansive views. Along the way, you'll encounter giant lobelias and everlasting flowers, unique to this altitude. By afternoon, you’ll reach Horombo Hut, situated on a plateau with sweeping vistas of the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. This is a lively camp, where climbers ascending and descending often gather to share stories and experiences.

The trail gradually ascends through the sparse alpine desert, where vegetation becomes minimal and the air grows thinner. You'll cross the Saddle, a broad, barren plain between the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The route is exposed but offers striking views of both summits. By mid-afternoon, you'll reach Kibo Hut, your base camp for the summit attempt. Rest early and prepare your gear for the challenging climb ahead.

Summit night begins around midnight. The steep, switchback trail ascends slowly but steadily, passing Hans Meyer Cave (5,150 m) on the way to Gillman’s Point (5,685 m) on the crater rim. The final stretch to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point, is challenging but deeply rewarding. As you reach the summit, you’ll witness the sunrise above the clouds and celebrate your incredible achievement at 5,895 meters. After taking photos and enjoying a brief stay at the top, you’ll carefully descend back to Kibo Hut for rest. From there, continue down to Horombo Hut for your overnight stay.

Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Your final descent takes you back through the moorland and into the lush rainforest. The air grows warmer and thicker as you approach the trailhead. Upon arrival at Marangu Gate, you'll receive your official Kilimanjaro summit certificate—a proud memento of your achievement. From there, a short drive will return you to the hotel, where you can enjoy a hot shower, a hearty meal, and a well-deserved celebration.
