Materuni Waterfalls & Coffee Plantation Walk

EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW

Safari Overview

Nestled on the lush southern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, the village of Materuni offers a profoundly authentic Tanzanian experience that combines nature, culture, and world-class coffee. This full-day excursion is the perfect counterpoint to safari life — intimate, unhurried, and deeply human.

Your journey begins at a family-owned Chagga coffee farm, where three generations have cultivated shade-grown Arabica beans on the volcanic soil of Kilimanjaro's foothills. You'll participate in every stage of the traditional process: picking ripe cherries, hand-roasting over wood fire, grinding with a mortar and pestle, and finally brewing and tasting cups of some of the world's finest single-origin coffee.

Afterward, a guided forest trail leads through banana plantations and tropical vegetation to the Materuni Waterfall — an 80-metre cascade of crystal water plunging into a natural pool surrounded by emerald forest. On clear mornings, Kilimanjaro's snow-capped Kibo peak towers above the treeline behind you.

A traditional Chagga lunch of plantain stew, fresh vegetables, and local brew concludes the experience before your return to Moshi.
